Ambient Guidance

Ambient Guidance is the contextual help layer in SpectraSherpa Cloud.

It watches where you are in the application and suggests useful next steps, such as checking data shape after import, running PCA before calibration, or reviewing validation outputs after model training.

Guidance is intentionally lightweight. It should make the product easier to use without turning every screen into a tutorial.

Guidance suggestions are assistance, not scientific results. They should be checked against the actual data matrix, plots, metrics, metadata, and validation design before they influence a report or customer-facing conclusion.

How to use a suggestion

Treat a nudge as a question to consider, not an instruction to follow:

  1. Read the suggestion and identify the project, workflow or result it refers to.
  2. Open the linked view or inspect the named data, plot or report.
  3. Decide whether the suggested action matches your analytical objective and validation plan.
  4. Run, save, export or ask Advisor only after you have reviewed the action.

Guidance does not replace a method decision, change a saved result, or establish that a model is validated. Dismiss a suggestion when it is not relevant; use Advisor when you need an explanation rather than a next-step reminder.

Junior-user note

If Guidance says “try preprocessing” or “review validation,” first ask what changed in the data and which samples the next result will represent. It is fine to dismiss a nudge while you learn the workflow; dismissal is not a scientific decision.
